CARBON Act Passes CA State Assembly With Bipartisan Support

Jim Wood reading the CARBON Act in the CA AssemblySan Francisco, Calif. (May 31, 2017) – The Pacific Forest Trust sponsored Assembly Bill 1433: The Climate Adaptation and Resilience Based on Nature (CARBON) Act, authored by Assembly Member Jim Wood, passed the California Assembly today with bipartisan support. This demonstrates how addressing climate change through land stewardship is a bipartisan effort. We can’t solve the climate crisis without working with nature.

These actions achieve cost-effective greenhouse gas reductions, while also helping with adaptation and resilience.

The CARBON Act promotes climate change adaptation and mitigation through investments in forests, farms, and other lands that take carbon out of the atmosphere by leveraging the original “green tech” of nature. The CARBON Act supports the combination of many different activities including forest thinning, mountain meadow restoration, range management, and conservation easements. This effective, integrated approach would achieve enduring climate benefits while also meeting water, wildlife, and rural resilience goals.
