Forest Fete is the premier social event for the forest community in the West. We join with over 200 leaders in forestry, academia, climate action, sustainability, and environmental advocacy for a celebration of our work together to protect forests for all of their benefits.
At this year’s Forest Fete, we will mark our first 25 years with lively conversation, superb dinner and refreshments, and (for the first time ever) an exciting live auction featuring one-of-a-kind experiences donated by our generous sponsors!
2018 Fete Speakers & Honorees
Keynote Speaker
Richard Louv is a journalist and author of nine books, including Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder, The Nature Principle, and Vitamin N. Translated and published in 24 countries, his books have helped launch an international movement to connect children, their families and communities to nature. He is co-founder and chairman emeritus of the nonprofit Children & Nature Network. In 2008, he was awarded the Audubon Medal, presented by the National Audubon Society. Prior recipients have included Rachel Carson, E. O. Wilson, and President Jimmy Carter.
Sequoia Award Honoree
Dr. Andrea Tuttle is a leader in national and international forest and climate policy. Her work has inspired generations of foresters, students and public servants to help ensure a more livable world with vibrant, resilient forests. A Ph.D. in environmental policy from U. C. Berkeley, she has had an extraordinary career serving the public as Director of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (1999–2004); Chair of the California Fire Alliance and as a member of the California Coastal Commission, North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, and National Association of State Foresters.
Forest Champion Award Honoree
Owned by the Parsons family for nearly 100 years, Mountcrest Forest is a beacon of exemplary forest management. Along with his family, Jud Parsons has been a leader in stewardship and conservation of Oregon’s farms and forests. An early champion of 1000 Friends of Oregon, Jud was among the first to conserve many of the family’s agricultural lands, culminating in the conservation of their 2,036-acre Mountcrest Forest on the Siskiyou Crest. Its conservation serves as a legacy of the family’s decades of stewardship, a haven for wildlife, and a model for other working forests across Oregon.
